(The Hill) — Rep. Steve Womack is mourning the death of his 68-year-old wife, Terri, after more than four decades of marriage.
The Arkansas Republican said Tuesday that Terri Lynn Williams Womack died Sunday following a brief illness.
“Heaven welcomed an angel,” Womack wrote in a social media post, saying his wife “went to live in eternity with Jesus.”
“My heart is broken and that space remains without her presence,” Womack said of his spouse, who spent her career working for various courts in Arkansas.
Thanking the public for the “outpouring of prayers and support,” Womack said, “I take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering in pain and is at peace evermore.”
Described as an “avid landscaper” and an “excellent cook” who adored her pets, an obituary for Terri said that her three children and four grandchildren were “most important to her.”
“With all boys, she was confined to learning and participating in the rough and tumble activities of those kids,” the obituary said.
Terri Womack died just days after President Trump granted clemency to the congressman’s son, James Phillip Womack, after he was convicted in a federal drug case.
According to USA Today, a White House official had noted following the commutation that the Womacks had “several recent health issues, including his mother being diagnosed with abdominal cancer.”
