(NewsNation) — Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is accused of failing to pay $11,000 in credit card debt, according to a published report.
The Chicago Tribune says Lighfoot, a former federal prosecutor and high-powered attorney, was sued last fall by JPMorgan Chase Bank. The bank declared her debt a charge-off early last year, said the newspaper, which cited court records.
Lightfoot declined comment through a spokesperson.
The 63-year-old Lightfoot served a single, tumultuous term as Chicago’s mayor before failing to emerge from a crowded primary in February 2023.
Since leaving office, Lightfoot’s profile has risen as an academic and a consultant. In 2024, she was tapped to investigate alleged mismanagement and fraud in a south suburb. Last week, she unveiled an effort to compile allegations of wrongdoing by federal immigration authorities in Chicago.
The Tribune notes Lightfoot reported an average adjusted gross income of $971,626 from 2014 through 2017 when she was a partner at blue-chip law firm Mayer Brown.
