Nick Cave and Warren Ellis will create the original score for Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole, Netflix‘s Norwegian detective drama.
The pair has previously teamed on soundtracks for the likes of The Proposition, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Wind River, and will bring those noir sensibilities to the series.
The show is produced by Working Title and based on author Nesbø’s global bestselling crime novels. The whodunnit serial killer drama stars Tobias Santelmann in the titular role of Harry Hole, the anti-hero detective. He goes head head-to-head with his long-time adversary and corrupt detective, Tom Waaler (Joel Kinnaman), simultaneously working catch a serial killer and bring Waaler to justice before it is too late.
Pia Tjelta, Anders Baasmo, Ellen Helinder, Simon J. Berger, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal and Kelly Gale also have prominent roles, with Anna Zackrisson and Øystein Karlsen the directors. Nesbø is the writer and creator, with Tor Arne Øvrebø producing for Working Title and its parent company, Universal International Studios. Exec producers include Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Katy Rozelle, Rene Ezra, Karlsen, Nesbø and Niclas Salomonsson

Australian singer-songwriter Cave is known as the frontman of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. His unique voice and style have been the backbone of songs such as ‘Into My Arms’, ‘The Mercy Seat’, and ‘Red Right Hand’, with many featuring in films and TV shows. He has worked with bandmate Ellis on numerous soundtracks.
Nesbø added: “Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are masters at conjuring mood and tension, and their music is the ideal companion to Harry Hole’s brooding, enigmatic journey through the shadows of Oslo. Their music has always been a soundtrack to my writing process. To have them now scoring the world of Harry Hole feels both surreal and absolutely right.”
The nine-episode series is set to launch on Netflix on March 26.
