Elon Musk, Pete Hegseth to meet amid efforts to boost defense production

(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk may be renewing their friendship following a rift that led to Musk leaving his role in the administration.

Musk is slated to speak alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth Monday night at SpaceX headquarters in Texas as part of Hegseth’s “arsenal of freedom” tour.

The tour is meant to boost the U.S. defense industrial base by connecting with companies and encouraging faster, more powerful production of weapons and war technology.

Trump says he’s ‘inclined’ to keep Exxon Mobil out of Venezuela deals

The visit comes just days after the U.S. Space Force announced it was awarding more than $700 million in taxpayer dollars to SpaceX for missile warning and tracking services.

Musk left his cost-cutting DOGE initiative earlier than scheduled last year after clashing with Trump over government spending and attacking him on social media.

At one point, Musk posted on his social platform, X, that “Donald Trump is in the Epstein files.” He later took down that post and others, apologizing for them, but there was clearly a distance between the billionaire and the president.

The two appeared to take steps toward mending their relationship when they recently sat side by side at the funeral of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk.

On Sunday, Trump raised the possibility of working with Musk to collaborate to end the internet blackout in Iran.

“Listen, we may get the internet going, if that’s possible, we may speak to Elon because, as you know, he’s very good at that kind of thing,” Trump told reporters. “He’s got a very good company. So we may speak to Elon Musk. I’m going to call him as soon as I’m finished with you.”

Musk also sat down for dinner with the president and first lady about a week ago, suggesting he’s on board with reviving the partnership.
