(NewsNation) — Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., has doubled down on his belief Cuba’s current regime will fall following the military capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

Scott joined “The Hill on NewsNation” to discuss the fallout from the United States’ military operation in Venezuela and its potential impact on neighboring nations.

“We’re in the process of it happening now,” Scott said. “Everything takes longer than you think, right? I’d like everything to happen today, for the kids of Venezuela, for the kids of Cuba, but I think it’s going to happen, maybe this year, maybe next year.

“It’s going to be the end of the (Cuban President Miguel) Díaz-Canel regime. The Castro regime (will end),” he added.

Trump weighs US military as option to obtain Greenland, White House says

President Trump told reporters following Maduro’s capture that “Cuba is ready to fall.” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, “If I lived in Havana and I was in the government, I’d be concerned.”

Cuban officials condemned the strikes and capture of Maduro. Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla wrote on the social platform X that his country condemned the “military aggression” of the U.S. against Venezuela.

“In the Southern Hemisphere, people have fought for democracy. They have a background of fighting for freedom. The people of Cuba are fighters for freedom,” Scott said.
