Emergency crews were scrambled just after 4.15pm following the alleged rampage by the man.

Horrified witnesses reported seeing the man “shouting” at those waiting in the emergency department.

He then allegedly “punched” a man to the ground, before “biting” another person’s ear in the horror attack, MEN reported.

It is understood the man, aged in his 20s, had initially been taken to the hospital by police.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault and racially aggravated public order.

He has since been taken into custody at a local police station.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers called to the incident at around 4:15pm today.

“One man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of s18 and s47 assault, police assault and racially aggravated public order.”

Michael Anderson, who was waiting in the department with his pregnant partner, claimed he helped to pin the man down.

Both he and a nurse helped keep the alleged attacker on the ground before security arrived, according to MEN.

It comes days after an Afghan man allegedly attacked five people with a crowbar in a hospital after reportedly being denied an appointment.

Officers and emergency services were scrambled to the scene at Newton Community Hospital in Newton-Le-Willows, Merseyside, on Tuesday.

Police said in a statement that the man was believed to have attended the hospital to request an appointment.

However, it is understood he became “increasingly agitated” when his request was declined and he was asked to leave, cops said.
