The 31-year-old tourist fell 20ft at Bushrangers Bay near the Mornington Peninsula – south of Melbourne – on Saturday.

Emergency services were called at around 1.15pm and quickly rushed to her assistance.

They are believed to have found her choking on water while unconscious.

She was moved to higher ground on a stretcher to avoid the incoming tide.

The young woman was then winched up and airlifted to the Alfred hospital in Melbourne where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Paramedic Jo Wilton said: “She was missing her teeth, so we believe she may have had a head injury as well.

“On further inspection, it looks like a hip injury, a wrist injury (as well).”

Wilton said the tourist is believed to have climbed the roughly 40ft tall Elephant Rock before she fell.

“There’s no actual tracks to get up to it, and on the way down, she had fallen, where there might have been some loose rocks,” Wilton added.

“We walked across the rough terrain to reach her and rescuers had to carry their equipment along the beach and so it’s very dangerous for our crews as well.”

The woman is thought to be a tourist from Austria who was visiting Bushrangers Bay for its picturesque views.

This is not the first incident involving a fall from a height along Australia’s coastline.

Earlier in December, a teenage girl tragically fell to her death on the Sunshine Coast after tumbling down a cliff while trying to take a photo.

The 17-year-old fell approximately 98ft after climbing a safety fence.

Police were called to the scene, but despite their best efforts, the girl died from severe head injuries.

It is believed she had had been watching the sunset with a group of friends when they decided to move to a better vantage point.

As they were making their way back up the embankment, one of the girls slipped and fell.

Her friends could only watch in horror as she tumbled down the cliff.

Back in 2021, a 58-year-old mother fell to her death in front of her children while visiting a popular beauty spot on Mother’s Day.

The woman plunged 160ft at Windin Falls in Cairns, Far North Queensland.

She was crossing a natural infinity pool when she slipped and was knocked unconscious.

Despite the efforts of police, it took around three hours to recover her body, with a rescue operation involving a helicopter, officers on foot, and drones.

This incident is the latest in the long line of tragic incidents to take place along Australia’s coastline
