Spoiler Alert: This podcast and article contain details about Episode 7 of HBO‘s It: Welcome to Derry, “The Black Spot”

Tonight, we learned more about the origins of Pennywise (Bill Skarsgard) and his daughter, who yearns to be a clown alongside her father on the big stage, Periwinkle (Madeleine Stowe). She had the most innocent of intentions to entertain.

Also there’s the pillar, the element that can stop the creature; the army just doesn’t get how powerful it is, and how it can help them. Leroy Hanlon tries to stop General Shaw’s plan.

Deadline

IT: Welcome to Derry co-creators and EPs Andy and Barbara Muschietti, unveil all about Episode 7 tonight and why it exists in the It universe.

Adult Ingrid, aka Periwinkle, does learn the sinister truth about her dad (err, creature), who enjoys slicing and chomping on Stanley’s head in front of her. But is Ingrid/Periwinkle possessed now? Because Papa Pennywise is going to sleep (he comes back, he always does)…

‘IT: Welcome to Derry’ co-creator Andy Muschietti makes a cameo in tonight’s episode.

The It filmmakers also discuss why Pennywise is picking on Will Hanlon (the father of Mike Hanlon in the It movies, the younger version of whom is played by Chosen Jacobs and the adult version of whom is portrayed by Isaiah Mustafa), Dick Halloran’s possession of The Shining, as well as what’s in store for Season 2 (to be set in 1935) and Season 3 (1908).

The Muschiettis say that tonight’s episode wasn’t conceived or written early on. The strikes threw a big curveball in the development of Welcome to Derry‘s scripts, along with its production as the series’ young cast sprouted rapidly in height during the months-long break.

“We were lucky with support of the studio to start shooting the show without all the episodes on paper,” Barbara Muschietti tells Crew Call tonight.

Our conversation with the Muschiettis is below:
