Morez Johnson Jr. leads No. 3 Michigan to rout of Rutgers

Morez Johnson Jr. scored 22 points to lead No. 3 Michigan to a 101-60 win over Rutgers in a Big Ten contest in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Saturday.

Johnson went 9 of 11 from the field for Michigan (8-0, 1-0), which scored at least 100 points for the third straight game, the first time it has done that since the 1989-90 season.

Yaxel Lendeborg had 14 points and eight rebounds, Trey McKenney scored 13 points, and Elliot Cadeau had 11 points and nine assists to lead Michigan.

The Wolverines shot 60% from the field (39 of 65), 44.8% from 3-point range (13 of 29), and held a 40-29 rebounding advantage.

Harun Zrno scored 13 points and Dylan Grant added 11 for Rutgers (5-5, 0-2), which committed 16 turnovers, shot 35.8% from the field (24 of 67), and hit 26.1% (6 of 23) from 3-point range.

Michigan was in control from the start and went up 56-30 with 17:17 remaining in the game.

The Wolverines continued to grow their lead, taking a 30-point advantage at 65-35 with 14:58 left and then a 77-40 lead with 12 minutes to play on a 3-pointer by L.J. Cason.

The Wolverines went ahead 97-56 with four minutes left and hit the 100-point mark with 2:08 remaining on a pair of free throws by McKenney.

In the first half, Michigan started to gain separation early, going on a 10-2 run to take an 18-6 lead with 11:47 remaining. The Wolverines later went on a 12-2 surge to take a 39-19 lead with 4:51 left on a 3-pointer by Lendeborg.

Michigan held a 50-25 lead at halftime, scoring 34 points in paint.

Rutgers in the first half had almost as many turnovers (10) as made field goals (11).
