THIS is the terrifying moment a woman drove the wrong way down the M6 motorway and straight into oncoming traffic.
Dashcam footage shows a red Ford Fiesta driving down a service station slip road in the wrong direction, straight into oncoming traffic on the M6 in the afternoon of November 18.
The woman left Welcome Break Corley, Warwickshire, at Junction 3 and started travelling northbound on the southbound carriageway to the horror of other drivers.
One driver can be seen frantically waving from his window as she drives over hatched road markings and continues past him.
HGV driver Phil Smith said his first thought was “what the f**k?” as he witnessed the incident near Corley services at 1.50pm.
The 46-year-old said the driver “clearly didn’t know where she was going” in footage he caught on his dashcam.
Phil, from Stockport, Greater Manchester, said: “I was overtaking another HGV when this car drove out of Corley services.
“My first reaction was, ‘what the f**k?’
“I saw an old lady in the car and I thought ‘she clearly does not know where she’s going’.
“She might have gotten to ‘that age’.
“I just think to myself, ‘should you really be driving? Are you ill? Should you think about maybe not driving?’.”
National Highways said two HGVs formed a blockade to protect other drivers and that the car clipped one before coming to a stop.
There were no reported injuries.
A National Highways spokesperson said: “National Highways traffic officers attended the M6 southbound near Corley Services in Warwickshire shortly after 13.50 on Tuesday 18 November.
“We had received reports of a vehicle exiting the services in the wrong direction and colliding with two HGVs as the car travelled north on the southbound carriageway.
“Officers closed two lanes for a short time while debris was cleared from the carriageway.”
A Warwickshire Police spokesperson said: “We were called at 1.52pm on Tuesday 18 November to a report of a red Ford Fiesta going the wrong way on the M6, near to J3, Corley.
“The vehicle was reported to be travelling northbound on the southbound carriageway.
“The car was safely stopped by officers.”
In October 2024, a motorist travelling the wrong way along the M6 was involved in a fatal accident which killed two boys, a woman and two men near Tebay services.
