A PEDESTRIAN has tragically died after being struck down by a car in a “serious collision”.
Cops have arrested a man in connection with the horror smash in Meltham, West Yorkshire, this afternoon.
Officers were scrambled to reports of a serious collision on Meltham Mills Road just after 2pm.
Despite the best efforts of emergency crews, the pedestrian was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Concerned residents reportedly saw “an ambulance and five police cars fly past” as they sped to attend the crash.
And posts on local social media groups described seeing an air ambulance hovering in the area.
West Yorkshire Police is advising motorists to avoid the area as a probe into the crash remains ongoing.
The force confirmed this evening one man had been arrested following the tragedy.
It said: “At 2.01pm officers were called to Meltham Mills Road to reports of a serious road traffic collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian.
“A man who was the pedestrian sadly was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A man has been arrested in connection with the collision.
“The road remains closed and we’re asking motorists to avoid the area.”
It comes after 23-year-old Sid Sefton tragically died after a horror crash in the early hours of this morning.
Sid was driving his blue Ford vehicle on the B1230 in the East Riding of Yorkshire when disaster struck.
The 23-year-old had been heading towards Gilberdyke, near Howden, when he veered off the road and hit a tree.
Emergency services rushed him to hospital after the crash at around 3.20am.
Sadly despite the best efforts of paramedics, Mr Sefton was pronounced dead a short while later.
