A black car can be seen speeding down the other side of the road towards the cops steadily driving down a residential street.

The other vehicle suddenly swerves towards them, coming head-on.

Then the front windscreen glass shatters, and all that can be seen is the window completely crushed.

The car immediately stops, its window shattered and windscreen wiper failing to move.

The impact of the two cars was estimated to be around 80 miles per hour.

Post-crash shots of the police car reveal what was left – with its bumper was left completely torn off, and window almost folded in half.

Officers in the police car were responding to a 999 call concerning safety.

They were called to check on Joseph Sharpes at an address in Cheshire on June 7, 2025.

Before arriving, Sharpes left the home driving in the direction of the police car.

As they neared him, Sharpes then deliberately turned his vehicle towards the other side of the lane to drive directly into the officers, a court heard.

The head-on crash happened around 12.30pm.

Both officers in the car were rushed to hospital along with Sharpes after they received serious injuries.

The reckless driver was arrested at the scene and remained so whilst in hospital.

He was then interviewed, charged and taken to prison.

Sharpes, from Middlewich, later pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, actual bodily harm, drug driving and possession of cocaine.

He appeared at Chester Crown Court, and was sentenced to 54 months in prison on November 17.

Detective Sergeant Ryan Ogden said after the trial’s conclusion: “I welcome the custodial sentence handed to Sharpes.

“The actions of Sharpes not only put himself in danger but also two police officers and other members of the public.

“Both officers suffered significant physical and psychological injuries as a result of the collision.

“One of them has still not returned to work.

“I also hope the conviction and release of the dash camera footage will help address some of the insensitive comments made on social media at the time apportioning blame to the police for the collision.”
