COPS have plunged a number of streets into lockdown after a grenade was reportedly handed into a charity shop.
Police and explosives teams swarmed Wharf Street South in Leicester, after reports of the explosive.
The grenade was reportedly sitting in a box which was then handed into a high street charity store.
A cordon is in place around the scene with a number of roads closed off.
Leicestershire Police have told people to avoid the area following the news.
Drivers have also been urged to avoid the area during the chaos.
The grenade was allegedly found at an Age UK furniture warehouse on Gladstone Street, reports Leicestershire Live.
Two fire trucks were also spotted at the scene this afternoon.
The force wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Road Closure 1450hrs | Wharf Street South in Leicester City is closed between the Crafton Street West junction and the Eldon Street junction.
“Please avoid this area. Thank you.”
