DONALD Trump’s Board of Peace will be allowed to govern the future of Gaza after a US resolution was approved by the UN Security Council.
Members of the council voted in favour of the highly-touted drafted resolution on Monday as the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas continues.
The resolution, likely to include Trump’s 20-point peace plan, has been backed by 13 countries – including the UK, France and Somalia.
No country outright rejected the proposal at the UN with Russia and China both abstaining from the vote.
But, officials from terror group Hamas have said the plan cannot be allowed.
They rejected the resolution, saying it fails to meet Palestinians’ rights and demands.
The plan will “impose an international guardianship mechanism on the Gaza Strip”.
Washington will allow it to be used by Israel in whichever way they please, the terror group added.
Included in the plan is the establishment of an International Stabilisation Force (ISF).
This will involve several countries helping to fund and support the idea.
The ISF is a central part of Trump’s plan which also includes the creation of Board of Peace.
Trump is expected to lead this board as its chief.
Another part of the plan will be the complete demilitarization of Hamas – something Trump has warned they must do immediately.
Another key area is around the reintegration of civilians to the decimated strip after years of war.
After the vote, Trump posted in celebration saying: “Congratulations to the World on the incredible Vote of the United Nations Security Council, just moments ago, acknowledging and endorsing the BOARD OF PEACE, which will be chaired by me, and include the most powerful and respected Leaders throughout the World.
“This will go down as one of the biggest approvals in the History of the United Nations, will lead to further Peace all over the World, and is a moment of true Historic proportion!
“Thank you to the United Nations, and all of the Countries on the U.N. Security Council, China, Russia, France, The United Kingdom, Algeria, Denmark, Greece, Guyana, South Korea, Pakistan, Panama, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, and Somalia.
“Also thank you to those Countries that weren’t on this Committee, but strongly backed the effort, including Qatar, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkiye, and Jordan.
“The members of the Board, and many more exciting announcements, will be made in the coming weeks.”
Scores of Gaza remain covered in debris from daily bombardments, with millions still displaced due to the conflict.
Some have returned to their demolished homes as others look to rebuild their lives from the beginning.
Washington has vowed to help to safely bring back Palestinians to the land so it can once again flourish in the Middle East without the threat of war.
The draft also calls for the creation of a newly trained Palestinian police in Gaza which will be in place of the current Hamas-run police force.
In terms of the cash needed for such a huge rebuild of the strip, the plan will call for the creation of a trust fund backed by the World Bank.
One of the final parts of the resolution involves what happens to Palestine.
Much of the world has now officially declared it will recognise it as its own state – including the UK and France.
The US is among the nations yet to announce a similar move mainly due to their close diplomatic ties with Tel Aviv.
But the Washington-led draft has raised the possibility of the creation of a Palestinian state
A path to formal statehood was included after pressure from key Arab states pushed for the idea.
Israel strongly opposes recognising Palestine in such a way.
