A GYM teacher has been accused of sickening sexual abuse after allegedly raping a vulnerable student on multiple occasions for over a year.
The student, who was just 14 years old at the time the abuse began, has been left afraid to walk home alone from school after he claimed Teresa Whalin, 28, stalked him following their “break up”.
Colorado middle schoolteacher Whalin was arrested on Monday, just hours after her alleged victim reported their relationship to a school counsellor.
She is facing three charges: suspicion of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, internet exploitation of a child and stalking.
Whalin was teaching a gym class at Ranch View Middle School when she was taken into custody, according to ABC7.
She has been accused of having sex with the troubled teen for more than a year, before allegedly stalking and harassing him after she got dumped.
The health teacher allegedly told investigators that she’d been in a sexual relationship with the student .
Police documents say she confessed to exchanging nude photos, as well as making fake phone numbers to anonymously call him, according to the Denver Post.
The boy reported self-harming and struggling with his mental health following the relationship.
He is 12 years younger than Whalin, making him around 14 when the vile abuse is said to have begun in April 2023.
The student told a school counsellor about the “inappropriate sexual relationship” with the gym teacher, describing the relationship as “dating“.
He said they had exchanged explicit pictures and messages via Snapchat, been out to eat and spent time together in her Ranch View Middle School classroom in Highlands Ranch.
Police allege the warped teacher “struggled with the breakup” after the student ceased contact and began stalking him.
She allegedly drove around the student’s home and showed up on his route to and from school.
Her behaviour frightened him to the point that he would take alternate routes or get rides with friends’ families, according to court documents.
Whalin has allegedly confessed to the sickening sexual relationship and admitted to making fake numbers to contact him anonymously, in an attempt to get him to turn to her for help.
She is currently in custody, being held on a $50,000 bond.
She had been employed by the Douglas County School District since 2021, however has since been put on administrative leave, according to a letter from Ranch View principal Erin Kyllo.
“We are working to find a long-term substitute teacher for our impacted students,” Kyllo wrote to parents.
“In the meantime, the entire Ranch View Middle School administrative team will support our students and ensure learning continues.”
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has also released a statement, saying an investigation had been launched, and that the Douglas County School District was “cooperating with the ongoing” inquiries.
It comes as a 26-year-old teacher has been charged with having sex with a 16-year-old student after allegedly telling a colleague about the sick affair.
Jocelyn Sanroman is facing a felony charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Elsewhere, a married teacher from Indiana allegedly asked three underage boys to “gangbang” her while wearing a Scream mask.
