Girl, nine, found dead in village after reports ‘three children assaulted’ & woman, 49, in hospital

POLICE are urgently investigating the tragic death of a nine-year-old girl after they were called to reports that three children had been assaulted.

The youngster was sadly discovered dead inside a home in Islip, Oxfordshire, on Tuesday.

Three children were found at the scene on with two rushed to hospital to receive treatment.

Sadly, the third – a nine-year-old girl – was pronounced dead at the scene.

A cordon was erected in the area while officers carried out enquiries into the tragedy.

Thames Valley Police said the youths’ family were being supported by specially trained officers.

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Sally Spencer confirmed a probe was ongoing into the youngster’s death.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out but the cause of death remains unclear.

The two youths who were raced to hospital received treatment and have since been discharged.

A 49-year-old woman was also taken to hospital in a life threatening condition.

She remains in hospital under police bed watch at this time, officers said they were not currently seeking anyone else in connection to the incident.

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Amy Fox said: “First and foremost, our deepest sympathies are with the child’s family, friends, and all who knew and loved her. This is an unimaginable tragedy, and we are doing everything we can to support those affected.

“A 49-year-old woman from Oxfordshire was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition and is currently under police bed watch. We are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with this incident.

“The scene has now concluded at the property, but officers will continue to be present in the area over the weekend, and we encourage anyone with concerns or information to speak with them.

“This remains a highly sensitive and complex investigation. I want to sincerely thank the community for their understanding and patience as we work to uncover the full circumstances.”
