Padma Lakshmi has revealed the surprising piece of fashion advice her daughter Krishna Lakshmi gives her.

The television personality — who turned 55 on Monday — and her 15-year-old only child are Vogue India‘s September cover stars, and opened up to the publication about how they influence each other’s style.

While playing Tell the Truth in a social media video, the ladies admitted they ‘silently judge’ each other’s outfits ‘all the time.’

‘We go by the five-second rule. If the other person can’t change [their outfit] in five seconds and [the comment] is negative, don’t say it. But before we leave the house, we’re pretty brutal with each other,’ Krishna confessed.

Meanwhile, the ex Top Chef host added about her mini-me, ‘And she’s always telling me to dress more provocatively.’

Krishna chimed in, ‘And she’s always telling me to dress less provocatively.’

Padma and Krishna’s unbreakable, symbiotic bond was on full display in the eight-minute clip — teased on Instagram and shared in its entirety on YouTube.

The duo shared loads of laughs and finished each other’s sentences while opening up about their biggest fight and sharing clothes.

Despite having different sartorial preferences, they admitted they raid each other’s closets ‘every day.’

‘And [my daughter] doesn’t tell me she takes [certain items] and it drives me crazy,’ the Taste the Nation star said.

They call one particular fight over clothes ‘bangle-gate,’ during which a sixth grade-aged Krishna wore her mother’s valuable gold bangles to school without letting her know.

‘I came home and the whole house was turned upside down. I was like, wait, are you guys looking for these bangles?’ the teen recounted. 

Asked what fictional character they remind each other of elsewhere in the interview, Krishna named Georgia from the Netflix comedy series Ginny & Georgia.

The high school sophomore explained, ‘I think she’s a survivor and I think my mom’s had… from when you were born, the cards have not been in your favor.

‘And I think you’ve made something of yourself… You’re a survivor and you do what you need to to get where you need to be, and I admire that about you.’

Padma shares Krishna with 55-year-old venture capitalist Adam Dell, whom she’d only dated casually before becoming pregnant.

The trio appeared in a rare photo together on social media as they celebrated their daughter’s middle school graduation in 2024.

At the time, the kitchen extraordinaire gushed on Instagram, ‘I can’t believe my baby girl is off to high school after the Summer. 

‘I want to thank all of the teachers, educators, counselors, security and staff at the United Nations International School for taking care of Krishna all these years. I’m so proud of Krishna and all she has achieved in her young, happy life.’
