A crowd of people attending a vigil in the Los Angeles’ Hyde Park neighborhood reportedly began attacking L.A. police officers Monday night.

It’s unclear exactly who the vigil was for, but officers with the Los Angeles Police Department responded to reports of the crowd blocking traffic at the intersection of Hyde Park and Crenshaw boulevards at around 9:30 p.m., a photojournalist with KNN News reported.

Details are limited, but unconfirmed reports suggest people in the crowd began throwing rocks and bottles at officers, prompting a call for backup as the situation escalated.

At least eight police patrol vehicles had their tires punctured during the ordeal, leading to several officers waiting for new squad cars.

Video captured at the scene shows a heavy presence of police officers who eventually formed a skirmish line to disperse the crowd.

One man was seen in what appears to be the middle of the road setting up several dozen candles that were presumably knocked over during the incident.

KTLA has reached out to the L.A. Police Department and is awaiting a response.
