A Jurupa Valley man was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated after a two-vehicle crash left at least two people dead and others injured early Saturday morning, officials confirmed.

It was around 2:50 a.m., according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, when Jurupa Valley deputies responded to calls of an unknown-injury traffic collision at the intersection of Limonite Avenue and Beach Street.

Deputies arrived to find two vehicles, one said to be a van, blocking the eastbound lanes of Limonite Avenue, west of Beach Street, according to RSO.

The details of the crash are limited, but investigators say that the van had several unrestrained passengers at the time of the collision. Two of the van’s passengers “had obvious signs of trauma,” RSO said, and authorities pronounced them dead at the scene. Their identities have not been released, pending notification to next of kin.

“Both drivers, along with additional passengers from the van, were transported from the scene to local hospitals with injuries,” the sheriff’s office stated. “At the conclusion of the on-scene investigation, the driver of the van, Bryan Cruz-Arenas, a 23-year-old resident of Jurupa Valley, was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and one count of driving under the influence causing death/injury.”

There was a temporary closure on Limonite Avenue following the crash, but it was lifted at about 11:55 a.m.

Anyone who witnessed the traffic collision or has any information about this incident is encouraged to call Deputy Linfoot of the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station at 951-955-2600 or the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office dispatch at 951-776-1099.
