In an effort to curb impaired driving over the Fourth of July weekend, Mothers Against Drunk Driving is partnering with Uber to offer discounted rides across select U.S. cities, including Los Angeles.
Starting Friday, riders in Los Angeles can receive 25% off up to two Uber rides (up to $8 per ride) using the promo code “RIDESAFE2025” in the Uber app.
The promotion runs from July 4 to 7 and is valid between 5 p.m. and 2 a.m., while supplies last.
The initiative comes as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration continues to rank Independence Day as one of the most dangerous holidays for impaired driving. In 2023 alone, drunk driving accounted for 233 deaths, 38% of all traffic fatalities, during the Fourth of July period, according to the agency.
This year, AAA projects that 4.3 million drivers in Southern California will be hitting the road to celebrate Independence Day. Nationally, the agency estimates that 61.6 million people will travel by car, a 2.2% increase over last year.
