Detectives are asking for the public’s help to find the driver responsible for a hit-and-run that left a 62-year-old man dead in Manchester Square on Friday night.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the fatal crash happened around 9:12 p.m.

The preliminary investigation shows that it was a light-colored, possibly white, SUV traveling north on Western Avenue when it struck a pedestrian crossing outside a marked crosswalk at 83rd Street.

“The vehicle failed to stop, render aid, and remain at the scene as required by law,” LAPD said in a release. “The vehicle was last seen going northbound on Western Avenue from 83rd Street.”

Police did not immediately provide a suspect description or say whether speed or alcohol may have been a factor.

Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to attempt life-saving measures, but by the time they arrived, they pronounced the man dead at the scene. The victim was identified as 62-year-old Danny Etis.

“Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” wrote LAPD.

In addition, LAPD reminded the public that a reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.

Anyone with information about this collision to contact Officer Green, South Traffic Division, at 213-677-9924.

During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877- LAPD-24-7 (877-527-3247). To remain anonymous, call the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477) or go directly to www.lacrimestoppers.org.
