A DUI suspect was arrested in connection with a deadly crash that killed a 19-year-old in San Bernardino County.

On May 2, Colton police responded to a crash in the 1700 block of East Washington Street and Center Drive in Colton shortly before 7 a.m.

Officers found the victim, Larenz Lamaar Fondren, 19, of Highland, lying on the road with fatal injuries. While crossing the street, he was struck by a driver.

Police said it appeared his body was struck by multiple vehicles afterward. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Investigators later identified Antonio Dominguez Medrano, 30, of Colton, as the suspect. He was arrested for vehicular manslaughter while driving intoxicated. Police also speed was believed to be a factor in the crash.

Medrano posted bail and was released from custody. On June 26, the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Medrano and issued an arrest warrant for homicide.

The next day, detectives located Medrano in Beaumont, where he was taken into custody.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the victim, Larenz Fondren,” said Colton Police Chief Anthony Vega. “Sadly, his life was tragically taken by an act of vehicular recklessness.”

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information on the case is encouraged to contact Detective Isabel Jaramillo at 909-370-5142 or email [email protected].
