Detectives in San Bernardino County announced an arrest Thursday in a two-year-long murder investigation into the death of an 18-year-old man in Highland.
The case centered around the May 23, 2023, shooting of Cesar Pineda on the 26300 block of 9th Street.
Deputies arrived at the scene around 6:20 p.m. to find Pineda suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency medical aid being rendered.
“Through continued and persistent investigation, detectives identified the suspect as David Holguin,” the Sheriff’s Department stated in its news release Thursday.
Holguin, a resident of San Bernardino, was already in custody in Imperial County on an unrelated case.
“When that case is completed, he will be brought to San Bernardino County on the murder charge,” the Sheriff’s Department stated.
No motive for the shooting was released.
