The Los Angeles Dodgers’ announcement of plans to help immigrants amid federal raids in Southern California has been delayed after federal agents tried to access Dodger Stadium.
The team, which had taken heat from immigrant-advocacy groups for what they called a lack of support, was supposed to announce plans to help immigrant communities on Thursday.
That morning, however, federal agents tried to access stadium parking lots, though the team turned them away.
As a result, team officials announced Thursday afternoon that their assistance plan will be announced at a future date.
“Because of the events earlier today, we continue to work with groups that were involved with our programs,” Dodgers President Stan Kasten said, as reported by Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times. “But we are going to have to delay today’s announcement while we firm up some more details. We’ll get back to you soon with the timing.”
