Al Pacino became the first movie star to meet Pope Leo XIV – but his fashion choices overshadowed the historic meet up.

The legendary actor, 85, was in the Vatican on Monday meeting Pope Leo XIV.

Al was pictured with the new pope – who hails from the US – on behalf of his film Maserati: The Brothers – with the film’s producer Andrea Iervolino also on hand.

The star’s unkempt appearance – including an unshaven beard and untucked button up shirt – was the topic of discussion on X, formerly Twitter.

‘And no one told him to shave and comb his hair?’ one fan wrote on X, while another asked why his shirt was ‘untucked?’

‘Dude Al is looking rough,’ a fan tweeted.

Many noted that the pictures of the Al and Pope meetup seemed like it could be a plot for Godfather 3.

One fan posed an interesting question.

‘I wonder who is more starstruck,’ they asked.

‘Al Pacino meeting the new Pope. Such hair! Looking good for 85, but still looking 85. Well, that’s life,’ another wrote.

‘We are honored to announce that this morning His Holiness Pope Leo XIV received in a private audience at the Holy See a delegation from the film Maserati: The Brothers, including Oscar winner actor Al Pacino and the film’s producer Andrea Iervolino,’ Andrea told The Hollywood Reporter.

Adding that the meeting with the Pope was ‘a moment of profound spiritual and cultural inspiration.’

The producer said they spoke about their ‘shared values that lie at the heart of both the Catholic Church and the film: family unity, love, compassion and the importance of contributing to the common good.’

Andrea continued: ‘These values, which Pope Leo XIV has consistently emphasized in his recent messages to the world, resonate deeply with the story of the Maserati brothers: a family whose legacy was built not only on innovation and excellence but on profound mutual respect, solidarity and a shared vision.’

Andrea shared the moment to his Instagram, writing: ‘Thank you @pontifex for your blessing!’

Adding: ‘Al Pacino and I donated a scale model of a Maserati in honor of our film Maserati: The Brothers,’ tagging the location as Vatican City.

Al arrived to the Vatican via private jet from New York City to Rome, Italy, per the outlet.

Al is currently filming Maserati: The Brothers with co-stars Michele Morrone, Jessica Alba, Andy Garcia, Anthony Hopkins and Lorenzo de Moor in Italy.

The actor stars as businessman Vincenzo Vaccaro in the film, which is being directed by Robert Moresco.
