A 15-year-old boy in San Bernardino County was taken into custody and booked on charges of attempted murder of a family member, officials announced.

The frightening ordeal unfolded June 4, with San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies responding to the 12300 block of Central Road in Apple Valley just before 3:30 p.m., sheriff’s officials stated in a news release.

At the scene, SBSD Deputies K. Ward and A. Sanders learned that the teen, who was not identified because of his juvenile status, attacked a family member.

“While the assault was occurring, the juvenile made statements about killing the victim,” authorities noted.

Investigators did not say if the victim, who was evaluated and treated by medical personnel at the scene for minor injuries, was a parent, sibling or relative of the 15-year-old.

A motive for the incident has not been released, nor were any additional details about whether the teen has a history of violence or mental health problems.

“The juvenile suspect was arrested and booked at High Desert Juvenile Detention Center on a charge of attempted murder,” officials said.

Anyone with information about this investigation is encouraged to contact San Bernardino County Sherriff’s Deputy K. Ward at Apple Valley Police Station by calling 760-240-7400 or sheriff’s dispatch at 760-956-5001.
