In one of the more bizarre images to ever come out of a Los Angeles County jail, officials released a photo of crews rescuing an inmate who somehow gotten atop a small ledge inches below razor wire in the Men’s Central Jail Sunday.
Details are limited and it’s unclear what the events unfolded and how the man, who is completely undressed, managed to get on top of what appears to be some kind of air vent high above the jail floor.
Tactical medics with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Enforcement Bureau responded to the scene and performed a high-angle rescue operation.
In the released photo, at least five members of the LASD SEB team can be seen, two of whom are holding ropes of a pulley and harness system, with one on a ladder beneath the inmate.
The inmate, who suffers from mental illness LASD officials said, was successfully lowered to the ground from the ledge and safely detained.
