Park rangers at Yosemite are saying to stay away from “one of the most dangerous animals” in the park.
When one thinks of dangerous wildlife, they might think of a bear, a coyote, a fox, a mountain lion, or even an eagle. But park rangers say there’s one animal that causes more injuries each year, and it’s none of those.
Yosemite park rangers say the animal that causes the most injuries in the park each year is a type of deer.
The mule deers are known for their “mule-like” ears and can be found grazing in meadows, chewing on bushes along trails, or crossing roads.
According to park rangers, although these animals seem harmless, they are still wild and skittish, which means they could lash out and defend themselves if startled.
Park rangers say this happens most when visitors try to approach the animal and or feed them.
Yosemite park rangers want to remind people that approaching wildlife within the park is illegal. Rangers say it is not only crucial for their safety but also to help protect wildlife from becoming too accustomed to humans.
