Americans are expected to open their wallets in near-record numbers to celebrate loved ones this Mother’s Day, according to new survey data from the National Retail Federation.

The industry group’s poll found that consumers will spend an estimated $34.1 billion for the annual holiday in 2025, up from $33.5 billion in 2024 and approaching the record of $35.7 billion set in 2023.

84% of all American adults are expected to celebrate the holiday by spending an average of $259.04 on gifts and celebrations. The survey found that most popular category for Mother’s Day spending remains flowers, with 74% of respondents planning to purchase, but consumers are expected to spend more money overall on jewelry ($6.8 billion) than any other gift.

Roughly half (57%) of the survey’s respondents planned to celebrate a mother or stepmother, with others choosing to honor a wife or daughter.

The survey of 7,948 U.S. adult consumers was conducted March 31-April 7 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.1 percentage points.
