Officials issued an alert for an at-risk elderly woman who went missing in Los Angeles on Sunday morning.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Peggy Amenta was last seen around 8 a.m., driving a silver Nissan Sentra in the area of Tampa Avenue and Rinaldi Street.

Loved ones are asking for the public’s help in finding her, especially as she is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and her safety is at risk.

Amenta is described as a 79-year-old white female who stands 5 feet and 8 inches tall, weighs about 110 pounds and has grey hair and blue eyes, according to the LAPD.

The Nissan she was last seen driving is a 2016 model with the license plate number 7UBV634.

The California Highway Patrol issued a Silver Alert for Amenta on behalf of the LAPD. The agency’s website stated that these alerts are only activated when an elderly, developmentally, or cognitively impaired person has gone missing and is determined to be at risk.

“Silver Alerts provide immediate information to the public to aid in the swift recovery of at-risk persons meeting the criteria,” stated CHP’s website.

For the state’s Silver Alert plan to be activated, CHP said the following criteria must be met:

  1. The missing person is 65 years of age or older, developmentally disabled or cognitively impaired.
  2. The investigating law enforcement agency has utilized all available local resources.
  3. The law enforcement agency determines that the person has gone missing under unexplained or suspicious circumstances.
  4. The law enforcement agency believes that the person is in danger because of age, health, mental or physical disability, environment or weather conditions, the person is in the company of a potentially dangerous person, or other factors indicating that the person may be in peril.
  5. There is information available that, if disseminated to the public, could assist in the safe recovery of the missing person.

If you have seen or have any information regarding the whereabouts of Amenta, officials ask that you please contact the Mission Area Watch Commander at 818-838-9800 or dial 911.
