A man was fatally shot in Whittier early Wednesday morning, possibly in connection with an armed robbery attempt.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the robbery was reported just after 1:30 a.m. in the 13500 block of Telegraph Road.

Armed men had entered a business there, and shots were fired before the men fled in a vehicle, though it’s unclear exactly what happened, authorities said.

Footage from the scene indicates the business may be a cannabis dispensary.

About 20 minutes later, a 32-year-old man was brought to a local hospital suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a second hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds. His identity has not been released.

“Due to it being in the early stages of the investigation, it has not been determined if the gunshot victim was related to the attempted robbery,” deputies said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the LASD’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.

To provide information anonymously, call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477) or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
