A suspected DUI driver was arrested after a multi-vehicle wrong-way crash on the 101 Freeway in Oxnard Friday.

Authorities received calls of a wrong-way driver on the northbound lanes of the 101 Freeway at 9:15 a.m.

A 37-year-old woman driving a Chevrolet Equinox SUV had entered the on-ramp from Oxnard Boulevard in the wrong direction, according to the California Highway Patrol.

As the woman realized she was driving in the wrong direction, she made a U-turn and was struck by an oncoming semi-truck.

The impact spun her SUV out of control before it came to rest in the median. A driver in a Ford F-150 truck quickly slowed down to avoid the spinning SUV but was rear-ended by a Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV.

The Jeep driver, a 33-year-old Oxnard woman, suffered moderate injuries from the crash and was transported to St. John’s Hospital. The Ford driver, a 38-year-old Ventura woman, suffered minor injuries.

The semi-truck driver, a 60-year-old Yuba City man, was not injured and the suspect driver declined medical aid at the scene. She was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.

Northbound freeway lanes in the area were closed for an hour as authorities investigated and worked to clear the debris.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information can call the CHP’s Ventura Area office at 805-662-2640.
