Over 150 vehicles gathered in the parking lot of an Orange County shopping center for what police called a “reckless driving takeover,” officials revealed Monday.

At least one suspect was arrested as a result, and it was caught on camera.

The Santa Ana Police Department said patrol officers responded to the takeover as it was happening on Sunday night at the Centre On Seventeenth, a mall located at 17th Street and Tustin Avenue.

Officers arrived to find a massive gathering in the parking lot and began ordering drivers to leave.

The department did not say what time the gathering started, but it was about 10:48 p.m. when the body camera footage was taken.

“After multiple commands to leave, one driver began doing ‘donuts’ in the parking lot,” detailed Santa Ana PD’s post to X. “That driver was detained, issued a ticket for reckless driving and driving without a license, and his vehicle was impounded…not a cheap consequence.”

While officers were detaining the suspect, other drivers participating in the takeover can be heard yelling and hollering from afar in the body cam footage. To view the video with sound, click here.

Police did not immediately publicly identify the suspect.

“Santa Ana PD has zero tolerance for reckless driving and street racing,” added the department.

As of 8 p.m. on Monday, officials did not report making any other arrests during this event.
