Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who left an elderly man severely injured in the El Sereno neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The crash occurred on Jan. 3 near Rosemead Avenue and Huntington Drive at around 1:20 a.m., the Los Angeles Police Department said on Thursday.

The victim, identified only as a man in his 70s, was crossing the street at Rosemead Avenue using a marked crosswalk.

That’s when a small, light-colored sedan traveling eastbound on Huntington Drive struck the man. The driver sped away without checking on the injured pedestrian.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and transported him to a local hospital where he was treated for severe injuries.

“Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” LAPD said. “The public is also reminded that as pedestrians, they should exercise caution when crossing streets, obey traffic lights, cross within marked crosswalks, and obey the rules of the road.”

No further details, including photos or surveillance video, were provided by police.

A reward of up to $25,000 is available to anyone who provides information leading to the suspect’s identification and arrest.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Officer Herrera at LAPD’s Central Traffic Division at 213-833-3713. The public can also call the LAPD at 1-877-527-3247.

Anonymous tips can be provided to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at lacrimestoppers.org.
