A couple of highly anticipated sports are making their way to the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympic Games, and we now know where they’ll be played.
As approved by the L.A. City Council and announced by LA28 on Friday, both flag football and lacrosse will be played at BMO Stadium when the Olympics come to town in the summer of 2028.
The venue will officially be referred to as Exposition Park Stadium during the games, due to Olympics policy on stadium sponsorships.
BMO Stadium opened in 2018 and is built on the former L.A. Memorial Sports Arena site, next to L.A. Memorial Coliseum. According to renderings released by LA28, it appears that temporary stands will be built and placed on the middle of the field, making playing surfaces smaller for flag football and lacrosse.
2028 will mark the Olympic debut for flag football, a non-contact version of the most popular sport in the U.S. It will also host the return of lacrosse as a medal sport for the first time since 1908 in London.
The announcement comes after Pasadena reached an agreement to host the semifinal and gold medal matches in men’s and women’s soccer for the games. On Friday, LA28 said that the preliminary matches for soccer will be held at venues outside of the city of L.A., to be announced later.
