A new trailer for Alec Baldwin’s Western movie “Rust” has been released more than three years after the fatal onset shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
The nearly two-minute trailer features an aging Baldwin sporting a cowboy hat and a gray beard. He plays outlaw Harland Rust, who comes out of hiding to help 13-year-old Lucas Hollister, who is played by Patrick Scott McDermott.
“The only order that exists in this world is the order we impose. If a man loses sight of that, he’s got nothing,” a voice is heard.
The trailer then shows Baldwin sitting next to a campfire, saying, “Some things in this life you can’t get back, I reckon.”
The film also stars Travis Fimmel, Frances Fisher, Jake Busey, Hosh Hopkins and Devon Joel Werkheiser.
“’Rust’ is a heartfelt and emotional story forged in the struggles of the new frontier — a story of the ripples that a single violent act can send through generations and the hard-fought redemption to be found in a world where the line between good and evil can often be unclear,” Melina Spadone, a representative of Rust Movie Productions LLC, said in a statement to People magazine.
In 2021, Baldwin, who is the lead actor and co-producer for the film, was pointing a gun at Hutchins when the revolver went off, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.
The incident forced filming to pause, with it ultimately being completed in 2023.
He pleaded not guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of Hutchins. He was scheduled for trial in July of 2024 until a judge dismissed the case based on the misconduct of police and prosecutors over the withholding of evidence from the defense. Because of this, the judge said the case cannot be filed again.
The film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for involuntary manslaughter. She was convicted in April 2024.
“Rust” will be in theaters on May 2.
