Frustrated tenants and property managers in West Hollywood are speaking out after thieves somehow obtained master keys to their mailrooms and mailboxes.
Video surveillance captured multiple mail thefts-in-action, typically happening between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., at buildings along Kings Road – a recent hotspot for this issue.
The footage shows the suspects, some unmasked, easily slipping into apartment buildings and mailrooms, snatching people’s packages and mail with the simple turn of a key.
Victims say they feel helpless after being targeted over and over again, and some are suspicious as to how these keys, or key copies, fell into the suspects’ hands.
The keys seen in the surveillance footage are primarily supposed to be in the possession of U.S. Postal Service mail carriers, leaving many to question how this happened.
“They take anything and everything they can, they’re just emptying it out,” said one victim. “It definitely seems like an inside job.”
This victim told KTLA’s Chris Wolfe that she manages a building that’s been hit at least four times.
“I reported it to the postal inspector’s office,” she said. “They don’t do anything. I mean, they really need to just change the locks.”
No arrests have been reported as of Sunday evening.
