(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump will speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday as the United States pushes for a permanent ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
Two of the world’s most prominent leaders will speak via phone call and are expected to discuss a proposed ceasefire deal orchestrated by the Trump administration.
Steve Witkoff, special envoy to the Middle East, met with Putin in Moscow last week ahead of Tuesday’s conversation.
Trump discussed the upcoming call with reporters Sunday aboard Air Force One, suggesting there could be something worth announcing after the call.
“A lot of work’s been done over the weekend. We want to see if we can bring that war to an end,” Trump said.
The Kremlin has revealed minimal details regarding the meeting. Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Monday that “the content of conversations between two presidents are not subject to any prior discussion.”
Former national security adviser John Bolton told “NewsNation Now” on Monday that the call favors Putin and could be “bad news for Ukraine.”
