Rare eclipse videos captured from both Earth and moon

Stargazers looked to the Sky last week to watch a total lunar eclipse but what they didn’t see was the total solar eclipse that also occurred, but only if you were on the moon.

That view was captured by Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost. The lunar lander which arrived on the moon aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in 2023 sent back stunning images during the totality of the solar eclipse.

Blue Ghost also captured a first look at the March 14 solar eclipse as it began to emerge from Firefly’s Mare Crisium landing site. A glowing ring of light emerged in the reflection of Firefly’s solar panel as Earth began to block the sun.

Down here on Earth, the lunar eclipse was captured on video taken from Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County, California.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the moon, Earth and sun are in alignment.

The shadow cast by the Earth can partially or sometimes completely blot out the moon.
