Thousands of participants gathered outside Dodger Stadium on Saturday morning for the LA 5K race.
The race kicked off live on the KTLA 5 Weekend Morning News, and Wendy Burch was stationed at the starting line to catch the beginning of the race just after 8 a.m., armed with a KTLA cowbell of course.
She interviewed both runners and onlookers supporting causes near and dear to them, including Cedars-Sinai and the Catholic Education Foundation.
“We have about 130 runners running for our foundation today,” one woman representing the Catholic Education Foundation from the crowd said before she was interrupted by the start of the race.
One woman, who Wendy Burch knew, was running on her birthday. Immediately after she took off running, another friend of Wendy’s stopped by to give her a hug.
Then, about two minutes after the 5K first started, Wendy tossed the microphone to KTLA photojournalist Armando Moncayo and began running.
For those of you wondering, a 5K race is 3.1 miles long.
The LA 5K is part of the festivities for the weekend of the 40th Los Angeles Marathon, which airs on KTLA 5 on Sunday starting at 6 a.m.
Road closures will be in place starting at 4 a.m. along the marathon route, which includes Sunset, Hollywood and Santa Monica boulevards as well as surface streets and ramps along the 101 and 405 freeways.
Viewers can also head to KTLA+ to stream the marathon. KTLA+ is available on Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, YouTube TV and on Samsung Smart TVs.
