More than 200 volunteers gathered in South Los Angeles on Saturday morning to clean nearby parks, businesses and homes as part of Mayor Karen Bass’ Service Day L.A. initiative.
Saturday was the second edition of the program, which Bass started in December of 2024 and aims to bring together Mayor’s Office staff, high school students and community members to clean a major Los Angeles thoroughfare.

“Today’s Service Day L.A. is about building momentum to clean our city and prepare to host the world in the coming years for the World Cup and the Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Mayor Bass said. “I am incredibly grateful to our partners, community members and volunteers who came out on a Saturday morning to make a cleaner, safer Los Angeles.”
According to a media release, the mayor’s office has directed city public works departments to improve upon and make processes more efficient to keep L.A. streets and public spaces clean.
