Gigi Hadid has shared rare insight into her co-parenting arrangement with ex Zayn Malik, saying that despite their split, they’re raising their daughter Khai with ‘love and camaraderie’.
Gracing the cover of Vogue’s April 2025 issue, the model, 29, said she and the One Direction star plan their custody schedules ‘months in advance,’ and they always ‘have each other’s backs’ when it comes to raising their daughter, four.
Gigi and Zayn split in 2021 after five years together, a year after they welcomed their daughter Khai.
During her interview with the publication, Gigi shared that all of her work commitments are planning around the weeks she and Zayn have their daughter.
She said: ‘Zayn and I do our custody schedules months in advance.
‘That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t change here and there, but we help each other out and have each other’s backs.’

Gigi added that she and Zayn have entered the new phase of their partnership with ‘love, and a feeling of camaraderie,’ all the while aware that there will always be public interest in their relationship.
She said: ‘There is the hard part of the world knowing this much, and thinking they know everything. And at the end of the day, we’re not interested in giving everyone our whole story.’
Gigi then went onto allude to a row Zayn had with her mother Yolanda, where the singer was charged with four counts of harassment.
He pleaded no contest to the charges over allegedly pushing Yolanda into a dresser and calling her a ‘f*****g Dutch sl*t’ in September 2021.
She added: ‘What we are interested in is raising our daughter together, with so much respect for each other, and not just as co-parents, but what we’ve been through together.’
During the interview, Gigi also credited therapy and helping to balance her busy work schedule with raising her daughter, admitting she now ‘has respect for herself,’ and has set boundaries depending on whether she is spending time with Khai.
She added: ‘I joke with my mom friends that I feel like the Hannah Montana of fashion. If you just met me at a photo shoot, you wouldn’t see a full depiction of me.
‘I feel that as a model, I’m a performer. And I don’t think that seeing me walk into random places around here,’ before gesturing at the landscape, ‘screams supermodel.’

On September 29 2021, Yolanda went to the property Zayn then shared with his ex Gigi Hadid while she was modelling in Paris.
Zayn was there, though it’s unclear if their now two-year-old daughter Khai was. What transpired next is unclear but the pair started arguing and Zayn ‘grabbed Yolanda’ and ‘shoved’ her into a dresser.
He also verbally berated her, screaming: ‘Stay away from [my] f*****g daughter’ and calling Yolanda a ‘f*****g Dutch s**t’.
He is said to have called Gigi in Paris and yelled down the phone to her: ‘Strap on some f*****g balls and defend your partner against your f*****g mother in my house.’
A security guard was present for the exchange, according to the court documents, and Zayn screamed at him: ‘Get the f*** out of my f*****g house copper.’
At another point he referred to fathering Khai with the ‘f*****g sperm that came out of my f*****g c**k’.
Gigi refused to comment in detail on the matter but released a statement at the time through her representative that said: ‘Gigi is solely focused on the best for Khai. She asks for privacy during this time.’
Zayn posted a statement on social media that confirmed there was an incident, that he pleaded no contest (although it was unclear at the time that he’d been criminally charged) and that he was trying to protect his daughter.
He denied striking Yolanda, as had been reported by TMZ, citing an unnamed source.
Zayn broke his silence on the incident during an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast in 2023, saying: ‘I don’t get involved when people talk online. My most valuable thing for me is time and I don’t want to be justifying myself.
‘I knew what the situation was and I knew what happened and the people involved know what happened and that’s all that matters.
‘I didn’t want to bring attention and I didn’t want to get a negative back and forth with her [or] any sort of narrative for my daughter to eventually read.
‘I believe I dealt with it in the best way and that’s all that needs to be said. It was a lot of negativity.
‘They’re family issues I’d rather keep in the family. I’m very hands on with my child, if I could have 60 per cent I would take it.’
