A commercial burglary suspect in Orange County who stole a high-end SUV and led police in a pursuit that ended with a standoff Sunday afternoon is in custody, authorities announced.
In a news release, officials at the Garden Grove Police Department said that just before 2 p.m., officers spotted a black Land Rover Sport near Harbor and Garden Grove boulevards.
The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier in the morning, police said.
Authorities identified the suspect as 28-year-old Santa Ana resident Jonathan McLaurin and said he immediately fled when police attempted to pull him over.
During the multi-city chase, the 28-year-old reportedly rammed two separate police cruisers in an attempt to get away before finally coming to a stop on the 91 Freeway east of Imperial Highway.
“A police armored vehicle was used to prevent the suspect from fleeing again and several attempts were made to have the suspect exit the vehicle on his own,” the release noted.
Officers then deployed a police K9 and were able to take McLaurin into custody.
“He was transported to a local hospital and will be booked into Orange County Jail after receiving medical treatment,” police said.
The extent and nature of the 28-year-old’s injuries were not immediately available.
No further details were provided.
