A man died after four other men tried to steal his chain in South Los Angeles early Saturday morning, police say.
The attempted robbery occurred around 3:15 a.m. near Florence and Western avenues in the Harvard Park neighborhood, according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson.
“Four Black males approached the victim on foot and tried to rob him of his chain,” the spokesperson said. “The victim refused, and one suspect produced a gun and fired multiple rounds.”
That victim, who remains unidentified, was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The suspects fled the scene in an unknown direction. No descriptions were immediately available, but the incident was confirmed to not be gang related, the LAPD spokesperson stated.
Video from the scene shows a police presence outside Burger Palace, located at the intersection of Florence and Western, although it was not confirmed if the shooting took place there.
