BETHESDA, Md. (DC News Now) — For local golf fans, there is an absence of a yearly Washington, D.C. area golf tournament. This year, there will be a major tournament in the DMV.
The 2025 Senior PGA Championship will be held at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland on Memorial Day Weekend, May 22-25.
“We’re really excited to bring Major Championship golf back to the region,” PGA of America Championship Director Jackie Endsley told DC News Now.
This is the second time the tournament will take place in the area, as it was held at Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia in 2017. Hosting the event, Congressional will become one of only four courses to have staged all four traveling men’s majors.
“We hosted the 2022 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship here just three short years ago, which was kind of a test run for us to see how the market would respond to major championship golf coming to the region,” Endsley said. “And they responded really well. We had a lot of people come out, we’re hoping that people will do the same on Memorial Day weekend.”
Richard Bland is expected to defend his title as the Senior PGA champion. Endsley added that the Senior PGA Championship is hopeful that past Ryder Cup captains Steve Stricker and Padraig Harrington will also participate.
In conjunction with the 250th anniversary of the United States military, the event is aiming to take extra steps to honor the military and service members.
“It’s absolutely amazing,” Endsley said. “The stars are aligning for us for it.”
Kids 15 and under can get into the event free with a ticketed adult, military members also will receive free admission, plus one guest per day. You can find more info and tickets available at https://www.srpgachampionship.com/.
The Senior PGA Championship will return to Congressional again after this year, in 2033.
