An elderly pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle while walking in the roadway has died from his injuries, the Long Beach Police Department said.
On the evening of Feb. 21, Carleton Carlson, a 77-year-old Long Beach resident, was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Palo Verde Avenue and Atherton Street.
The vehicle, a 2015 Toyota Camry, was traveling northbound on Palo Verde when it struck Carlson within the lanes of traffic. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
Carlson was transported to a local hospital and remained in critical but stable condition. But on Sunday, police were informed that he died as a result of his injuries.
Police are still investigating the circumstances that led up to the deadly collision, but say speed or reckless driving are not considered to be factors.
