Big Bear’s famous bald eagle couple, Jackie and Shadow, are getting ready to welcome a baby chick into the nest.
Friends of Big Bear Valley posted an image Sunday showing one of the couple’s eggs with a pip clearly visible, meaning that the chick inside is starting to peck its way out.
“Hatching is a long process. It may take a day or more for the chick to fully emerge from the shell. Meanwhile, we will remain patient and hold the most positive thoughts,” FBBV stated.
Video Sunday night showed Jackie and Shadow settling in for the night with one of the eagles nearly buried up to its head in snow but still keeping the eggs warm.
A second pip may have been spotted early Monday morning, but FBBV had yet to confirm on its website as of 9 a.m.
Jackie and Shadow’s last chick, “Spirit,” pipped exactly 3 years ago to the date, but fans of the couple were disappointed when no eggs hatched last year.
