CHICAGO (WGN) — A Southwest Airlines plane and a jet experienced a near-miss that was caught on camera at Chicago’s Midway International Airport Tuesday.

The incident happened around 8:50 a.m. local time and was captured on video by StreamTimeLive. Airport webcam video shared on social media shows the Southwest flight briefly touching down before pulling up to pass above a jet taxiing across the runway.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released the following statement regarding the incident:

The crew of Southwest Airlines Flight 2504 initiated a go-around when a business jet entered the runway without authorization at Chicago Midway Airport. The FAA is investigating the incident, which occurred around 8:50 a.m. local time on Tuesday, Feb. 25.

Southwest said in a statement to The Associated Press that “the crew followed safety procedures and the flight landed without incident.”

Air traffic control audio captures moments before and after the incident, in which Southwest Flight 2504 can be heard asking, “How’d that happen?”

Flexjet, the company to which the jet is registered, told NewsNation in a statement:

“Flexjet adheres to the highest safety standards and we are conducting a thorough investigation. Any action to rectify and ensure the highest safety standards will be taken.”

No injuries were reported in the incident, which is now under investigation by the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board.

The near-miss follows several aviation incidents, some deadly, involving commercial aircraft.

On Jan. 29, an American Airlines flight collided with a Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River, killing all 67 people aboard.

Two days later, a medical jet carrying six people, including one child, crashed into a residential Philadelphia neighborhood, killing all aboard.

In Alaska, a plane carrying a pilot and nine passengers that disappeared Feb. 6 was found in pieces the following day after it went down in the icy Bering Sea. All ten people were killed.

The following Monday, one person died and others were hurt after a private jet owned by Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil hit another jet at the Scottsdale Airport in Arizona.

On Feb. 17, all passengers aboard Delta Flight 4819 miraculously survived when the plane, landing during snowy, gusting conditions in Toronto, overturned and caught fire.

On Feb. 19, two people died after a pair of small planes collided in midair at a regional Arizona airport.

This is a developing story.
