Two people were shot inside a garage Monday night in Mount Prospect in what appears to be a domestic incident, Mount Prospect police said.
Officers responded to a shooting in an enclosed garage in a condominium building in the 1200 block of West Northwest Highway. Police said that a 63-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man were both shot inside the garage. The man, who is believed to be a suspect, was previously dating the woman but their relationship ended a few months ago.
Upon initial investigation, officers found that the woman arrived at the condo building about 4:45 p.m. As she was parking her vehicle in the garage, the man followed the woman and drove his vehicle into the driver’s side of her vehicle, police said. The man then got out of his vehicle and shot the woman multiple times before shooting himself.
Both the woman and the man were taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Police said the female victim was awake and speaking with detectives.
The 53-year-old man later died and was identified as Michael Work of Shorewood, Wisconsin, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Police said the scene is contained and that there is no threat to the community.
