(WTVO) — 11 people are dead after drinking frozen supplemental shakes linked to a listeria outbreak, according to the Federal Food and Drug Administration.
The shakes have also made at least 38 people ill, with 37 hospitalizations, the FDA said.
The affected brands that sold the tainted shakes were “Sysco Imperial” and Lyons Ready Care.” The shakes were primarily given to hospital patients and long-term care patients in 21 states.
The outbreak dates back to 2018 but has persisted through 2025, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Symptoms to look out for if anyone consumes a product tainted with listeria are fever, muscle aches, nausea, tiredness, vomiting, and diarrhea. If the more severe form of listeriosis develops, symptoms may include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions.
